Cyprus is an island in the eastern part of the Mediterranean, found below Turkey, to the left of Syria, and above Israel and Egypt. The island covers a little over 9,000 square kilometers and is the third largest Mediterranean island. A member of the European Union, the county has been using the Euro currency since the start of 2008. Cyprus is a popular tourist destination, visited by more than 2 and a half million people per year. The county is divided into six districts: Famagusta and Kyrenia - which is under the rule of Turkish Cypriots; and Larnaca, Limassol, Nicosia, and Paphos - which is under Greek Cypriot rule. Cyprus is a rich country, having the third highest per capita GDP in all of the European Union. They have a highly developed infrastructure, a free market, a recently discovered oil source and a booming tourism sector.
Cyprus is famous for its untouched beaches. Although some have been developed in the past few years, there are still unchartered coastlines that are only beginning development. They also have various archaeological and antiquities sites all over the island. Artifacts and historical structures date back to the New Stone Age and the Roman Empire. Its divided capital Nicosia is famous for its Venetian walls that surround the city. For tourists, they have a number of nice bars and restaurants that serve traditional Cypriot food. Cypriot cuisine is fusion of foods between the two surrounding countries: Turkey and Greece. Another famous site in Cyprus is the Troodos Mountains – within its great 3,000 meters are scenic walking trails, which in the winter are converted into ski paths. Lastly, is the Hamam Omerye – a 14th century building which was converted into a hammam, more popularly known as a Turkish bath.

Being an international beach destination, most Cyprus accommodations are found near the beach. They have many fabulous waterfront resorts, beach hotels, beach resorts that are known to offer luxury and relaxation. Facilities are the same as worldwide hotel standards; rooms come with air-conditioning, satellite / cable television, radio, central heating, telephone, safety deposit box, etc. internet access is not yet in the same level as other countries but they are becoming increasingly available in hotel lobbies and cafes. Most furnishings and wood finishing are made of Cypriot pine, one of the hardiest types of wood that have high resin content. Amenities in hotels include: bar, restaurant, gym, children’s playground, sports and leisure facilities, and the like. Most restaurants serve exquisite Mediterranean dishes, and also specialize in grilled cuisine – keeping with the beach setting. But what makes Cypriot hotels different from others is their focus on water activities. All waterfront and beach hotels in Cyprus act like oases – with pool bars, beach bars, jacuzzis, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, waterslides, water sports both within and at the beach, steam bath, sauna, and the like. Most of them also have fishing schools, as they are located near fishing harbours.

Hotels can be booked for overnight stays but most of them require at least a 2 night stay, being that there is rarely a time that Cyprus is not visited by tourists. During spring and summer season, most hotels require a minimum of 6 or 7 days stay. We will tell you which ones don’t though. Of course, all hotels welcome long-term bookings.
